John Francis - Chapter 37

After speed showers, Amanda dressed in jeans and a light pink buttoned shirt. Jon also dressed in jeans and a black shirt, but in deference to meeting Amanda’s mother, he buttoned it a little more than he usually did. Black leather boots completed his outfit. She looked at him and realized that no matter how casually he dressed, he was just so devastatingly handsome she almost couldn’t breathe.

Jon saw her staring at him and laughed warningly, “Don’t you DARE give me a hard on when I have to meet your mother!” Her blush made him laugh harder and give her a swift swat on the ass. At her quick intake of breath, he mumbled “Fuck!”, remembering their encounter before. Alright, Jon, pull your shit together. It’s her mother, asshole!

During the short drive in Tico’s car, he managed to get himself under control. Amanda was quiet on the drive, but he warmed when she reached for his hand, stroking his thumb gently. A few minutes later they pulled into her mother’s driveway. Turning off the engine, Jon squeezed her hand.

“Ready?” he asked softly.

“Yeah, she’s really great, Jon, it’s gonna be fine.”

They exited the car and walked to the door. Amanda’s mother, Jennifer, opened the door as she had heard a car in the driveway. She smiled brightly when she saw her daughter, then allowed a questioning look to enter her eyes at the man following her.

Amanda enfolded her mother in a big hug. “Hi, Mom! Sorry it’s been a few days.”

“No problem, honey,” her eyes turning to Jon. “Come in, please.”

They entered the comfortable home and after getting glasses of homemade ice tea, they sat at the kitchen table.

“Mom, I want to introduce you to someone. This is Jon. Jon, this is my mother, Jennifer Adams.” Amanda began.

“Hi, John, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” Jennifer still had a somewhat baffled look on her face.

“Mrs. Adams, it’s so nice to meet you,” Jon responded on his best behavior.

Amanda’s hands were twisting a bit over each other on the table and without thinking Jon reached out and took one of her hands in his. Jennifer’s eyes widened a little at that and she looked closely at her daughter. For the first time in over a year the aching sadness in Amanda’s eyes was gone. She waited for her daughter to speak.

“Mom…Jon and I have been seeing each other…

“Actually, Mrs. Adams, Amanda and I are together, as a couple,” Jon cut in.

Jennifer was not a stupid woman and she knew and loved her daughter very much. She didn’t know yet who this man was, but she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for taking that haunted look out of her daughter’s eyes.

Amanda was trying to figure out how she was going to tell her mom just who “Jon” was, when Jon started talking again.

“I asked Amanda to meet you, Mrs. Adams, because with my work I travel quite a bit and, well, I want her to come with me.”

Two female heads turned to stare at bright blue eyes.

Jon smiled that smile of his and Amanda, at least, was lost again. Jennifer, however, was made of a sterner stuff and she looked carefully at this man. Her daughter was no child and she could make her own decisions, but she knew the hell Amanda had been through during the last year and she wasn’t going to let anyone trifle with her “baby”.

Jennifer cocked her head at Jon, looking at him a little more closely. He looked familiar to her, but she couldn’t place where she knew him from.

“Well, that was pretty straight forward, John, so let me ask you something,” Jennifer started.

“Yes, ma’am,” he replied respectfully.

“What do you do that requires so much traveling and why are you assuming that my daughter will come with you?”

Amanda choked on a sip of ice tea and sputtered. “Mom, I need to explain something. I didn’t fully introduce Jon.” She took a deep breath. “Mom, this is Jon Bon Jovi.”

Jennifer furled her brow, thinking. “Jon Bon Jovi? The rock star?” She looked closer at Jon. “Is that who you are?”

“Yes, Mrs. Adams, I am. But actually my last name is Bongiovi. The other is a stage name.”

Jennifer looked at Amanda again, who just smiled at her.

“Okay, that explains the travel. Now answer the other question.” Jennifer’s tone relayed that she would brook no nonsense, even from someone famous.

Jon now took his own deep breath. “There are two answers to that question, Mrs. Adams. The first is that I asked her, but the more important answer is that I love her.”

Amanda gaped at Jon. She didn’t expect that from him. She was thinking of this more as a get to know meeting, not a lay all the cards on the table kind of thing. Knowing her mother, however, she should not have been surprised. Her mother never tried to run her life, but she was a no nonsense woman who had been known to speak her mind.

Turning to her daughter, she asked “Amanda?”

Looking her mother in the eye, she answered softly, but truthfully. “Yeah, Mom, I love him.”

I like Amanda's mom-she's a sharp woman and you can see where her daughter gets her composure from and her wit and judgment!

That was the best sentence in this meeting! I'm sure Amanda sat there next to him with the expression on her face that said: What the fuck!?!

Oh your story is fantastic! I love how it developed ;)

Nothing like laying all the cards on the table Jon lol. Something tells me Jennifer is going to keep a close eye on Jon. After all Amanda is her baby. I would do the same thing to my daughter, rockstar or not.
